As spring brings with it warm breezes and sunlight, our body starts to reawaken from the cold of winter. However, drivers must remember to protect themselves from an unwelcome visitor in the spring. That visitor is 'spring fever'!

Here are the best ways for avoiding spring fever, which can put drivers in hazardous situations.

STEP 1. Play lifting music and sing along!

If you feel your eyelids start to droop from drowsiness while at the wheel, take this step right now!

Play exciting music and sing your heart out! Don't forget to raise the volume much louder than usual. Of course, you should sing as loud as you can to be heard over the loud music. Shake away your drowsiness by imagining you are at a music concert!

STEP 2. Open up all the windows of your car and breathe in the fresh air!

Once you have woken yourself up with music, breathe in the fresh air. In general, when the indoor temperature of your car is 25℃ or above, you can start to feel listless. That’s why you had better maintain a temperature at 21-23℃ and, if you still feel spring fever, open the windows and ventilate your car.

Hazy air could cause drowsiness regardless of spring fever, so if you feel drowsy, open all the windows and get some fresh air inside the car although you might get goosebumps due to the coldness.

STEP 3. Have a snack to get rid of drowsiness.

Sweet chocolate or mouth-refreshing sweets are helpful to fight off sleepiness temporarily. If you don't like refreshments, you had better get simple snacks, such as gum, mint candy or chocolate, near the driver's seat in case you feel sleepy. You can also prepare some coffee or an energy drink if you prefer.

STEP 4. Take a 15-minute break!

What if spring fever doesn't go away despite your best efforts, singing loud, breathing in fresh air and eating snacks? Then, stop at a shelter for sleepy drivers or a service area and take a short sleep for about 15 minutes. Don't try to drive faster and get home to take a rest earlier. When you are drowsy, a short sleep is the best way to keep you safe and healthy.

If you feel uncomfortable when you nap in the car, simply get out of the car and stretch in exaggerated motions. If every part of your body is awakened, you will be able to shake off spring fever as well.

Remember drowsy driving is as dangerous as drunk driving.
